Every makeup lover knows that you always have to be ready to slay! However, with the many gadgets, trinkets and gizmos in the market, it’s hard to tell which ones are really necessary and which are optional. With that in mind, I decided to go back to the basics are start the “Every Makeup Lover’s Guide” series on my blog.
This series is dedicated to sharing with you basic tips and tricks on how to always slay the makeup game! Must have tools, brush set guide, makeup how to’s and so much more in store! No fancy tutorials, no flashy looks, no fancy videos, just you and me talking about makeup.
To kick things off, I wanted to share with you my TOP 5 MUST HAVE MAKEUP TOOLS to start your makeup kit. I truly believe that even if you have the most expensive makeup in the world, without the proper tools, you will never be able to achieve a beat face. Your tools are the most important part of your makeup kit. You can’t apply foundation with just your hands! It will never look good enough (in my opinion).
No matter what brush kit you have (which I will be discussing in my next post), you will ALWAYS need to have these tools…
1. Eye Lash Curler
I have straight asian lashes, unfortunately, and because of that I always curl my lashes and use waterproof mascara just to give that voluminous look to my eyes. A curled lash can really change the whole look and open up your eyes more! It’s easier for me to apply loads of mascara than deal with false lashes. I only use falsies for special occasions but for an everyday look curling your lashes and applying mascara should be more than enough. I personally love my tweezerman lash curler. I have been using it for years and it’s still amazing! But for a cheaper alternative that is perfect for travel, I have found one from miniso that works just well, small enough to fit in any makeup bag, and only costs 100Php.
QUICK TIP: To replace the rubber on your lash curler get one from the drugstore! It’s cheaper and will work the exact same way. My personal favorite is from ELF but there are so many on Lazada. Search “Eyelash Curler Pads” and you’ll find ones that are just as good!
NOTE: You MUST ALWAYS curl your lashes BEFORE applying mascara. Please do your lashes a favor and stop curling your lashes after mascara. It just ruins them and you might pull a few hairs in the process.
2. Beauty Blender/Sponge
Ladies and Gentlemen of Makeup, PLEASE, I beg you, GET YOURSELF A GOOD BEAUTY SPONGE! It is a game changer! Such a multi-use tool that is definitely worth every penny. I personally love beauty blenders but there are so many other alternatives in the market that you don’t have to spend that much to get the same results. It’s just a preference of mine to stick with beauty blenders even if I’ve tried other brands. You can use this with liquids, creams, even with powders! It’s really an amazing tool.
QUICK TIP: Use it DAMP! Please. The beauty blender was designed to be used damp. Using it dry all the time will damage it over time and you wont be able to use it as long as you’re intended to. Plus the results are far better when you use the tool damp.
NOTE: There are so many dupes in the market claiming to be a beauty sponge just like the beauty blender. However, if the sponge doesn’t expand after running it through water it will not work the same! Trust me.
3. Eyebrow Razor
This item is a personal preference. I personally don’t have the patience for tweezers. I just like to shave my brows or any fuzz on the face. (Don’t pretend! We all have those itty bitty tiny hairs that need shaving) So I always keep a razor with me, one that is for the brows. I don’t have a brand preference, I just get whatever I find. LOL
4. Eyebrow Brush with a Spoolie
This tool is a MUST! The brush you can use for both filling in your brows or even eyeliner and not all brow pencils or products come with a spoolie so it’s always handy to have one on hand. Never use the ones that come with with the actual brow products. most often than not, they suck. So go ahead and get yourself a good dual ended brow brush. You’ll thank me later. LOL
5. Eye Pencil Sharpener
I think this one is self-explanatory. I know a lot of pencils in the market come retractable but you just never know nowadays. You might pick up a lip pencil that is the PERFECT shade of nude for your look and the only one that works but low and behold it’s not sharpened and your look is ruined. Okay, maybe I’m being a bit over dramatic but seriously, you need this!
And that’s pretty much it! Stay tuned for next week’s “Every Makeup Lover’s Guide” on starting your own brush set! Same time. Same place.
As always, all of the love and support is very much appreciated. Until the next post!
