A lot has changed in my life over these past few years; I graduated college, moved to Paris, tried to learn French, learned how to bake, got my MBA and now I moved back to Manila, working full time.
A lot of ups and downs but still staying strong. Aside from the things that have changed, I know in myself that I have changed as well (for the better I hope). There were things in my life, habits in particular, that I decided to change. No, I didn’t turn vegan or super gym active, (not that I’m saying there’s anything wrong with that or that I’m dissing people who are into it) that’s just not me. I’m still that home bodied lazy person who’d rather snuggle under the sheets, watch Netflix and have snacks everywhere. Nothing has changed in that aspect of my life but I did change a few habits of mine as well as point of views in life.
I found that the little things I changed really made me happy and were the best things that I did for myself. I just wanted to share this with you guys, so keep reading if you wanna know more!
1. Stick to your Skin Care Routine, Drink A LOT of Water and Diffuse those Oils!
Like what Nike says, “JUST DO IT!”.
At a young age I was taught to take care of my skin. Of course, I never really listened up until I got to my mid 20s and started realizing how important it is. A good skin care routine is really beneficial for your skin. Before anything, you have to understand your skin type; dry. oily, combination. After such, you can start creating a skincare routine with products that target your skin needs. But even with the best skincare routine in the world you have to ensure you’re hydrated. I myself find it hard to drink water but if I don’t, I see the effects it has on my skin; dry and dull. So I make sure that even if I’m not thirsty I still drink a lot of water. Now it’s become a habit rather than a chore.
Taking care of our skin shouldn’t be the only priority, our health is incredibly important. Let’s be honest, we’re not getting any younger and the best time to start is now. We recently got into essential oils and we have been loving it! Every night I diffuse different oils but my favorite combo is breathe from doterra and lavender. I have been sleeping a lot better since I started this routine and wake up amazing. I can share more about my skin care and essential oils in another post because those are completely separate topics, but for now, know that those are things that I really try to keep up with in my day to day routine.
2. Stop and Smell the Roses.
Before you know it life already passed you by.
I myself am a planner and I still am. I just like to know what things I need to do and accomplish. I’m always on track and never miss a beat. However, with great planning comes great consequence. Sometimes we get caught up in all the planning stuff and working towards a future goal that we forget to take a step back and just enjoy what’s in front of us. The small things can bring so much joy in our lives that if we keep ignoring it you never know what happiness you could be missing out on. I still keep track of important dates and deadlines but I try to have days where I simply don’t worry about anything and just “bum around”.
3. Have a Signature Look.
Black, white & neutrals are your best fashion friends.
“I don’t have anything to wear” is every girl’s most ironic line. I used to take soooooo long choosing my outfit because there’s so many combinations, so many colours, so many choices. I’m sure all of the women out there reading this can relate. Then I moved to Paris, the fashion capital of the world. I thought everyday was like a runway. I have to make sure I’m on point every day. Every morning I’d stress about what to wear, then I look around me and realized how simple yet chic everyday fashion is there. It’s black, grey, neutrals and maybe a pop of color. The Parisians are smart. With their “signature” neutral no fuss look, they are able to look chic and fabulous every single day in no time at all. I’ve brought that with me here in Manila and if you knew me personally, you’d know that black, white and grey are my colors. It has saved me so much time every morning and I could never go wrong at all. It has actually saved me a lot of money too! I stopped trying to be trendy and focused on looking timeless. I always say, stick to your look, experiment every now and then, invest in your staple items, and you will look absolutely fabulous everyday! This is another one of those, I’ll make a separate post about it, but in due time. There are so many on the list. LOL
4. Spend more time connecting socially than connecting to social media.
A like doesn’t count for anything.
I think we’re all guilty of this. One of my pet peeves is being out with friends or family and everyone being on their phone. I understand for a bit every now and then but seriously, don’t kid yourself, sometimes it becomes the entire time. Imagine “connecting” with someone miles away, sometimes someone you don’t even know, just someone you follow, but not being able to have a conversation with someone right in front of you? I think it’s just sad that it is unfortunately our reality today. We all have to make a constant effort to really connect with the people around us and not just “like” them and their posts.
5. It’s Okay to say No.
Pleasing others isn’t your life’s purpose
This is something I struggled with at one point in my life. I was always known to be the “b*tch”, the frank one, the intimidating one and the truth is sometimes I’m really not the most sociable person in the world. So when it came to the people I cared about and really knew me I made an extra effort to make sure I wasn’t like that and maybe in a way be “liked”. But the truth is it’s tiring and in the words of Mama Ru “If you can’t love yourself how the hell are you gonna love somebody else? Can I get an Amen up in here?” LOL where my Rupaul’s Drag Race fans at? Kidding aside, you really have to put yourself first at times in order to give back to others. You can’t say yes to everything people want you to do when you know it’s not what’s best for you. It’s not called being selfish, it’s called being you. (which is in someway related to #9, but we’ll get to that later)
6. SAVE MONEY!
Having money in the bank is better than having a nice wallet with nothing in it.
I am proud to say that I have found the best way to keep track of my expenses and budget that works well for me. I can discuss this further in a different post but the important take away is I have learned the value of money. When I was still studying I really didn’t care much. I relied on my parents and no matter what they tried to teach me about money it never really stuck. Not until I started to earn my own and had to pay my own bills did I learn the meaning of “Money doesn’t grow on trees”. Now I catch myself looking at a price of something I want and saying “That money can be put into my electricity bill! Forget about it!”. Adulting isn’t fun but it’s important to make sure you always have emergency funds to pull from in case you need it rather than having nothing and borrowing money and burying yourself in credit card debt or personal loans. At some point you have to learn to live within your means, stop impulse shopping and really plan things out if you need/want something. I will make sure to share with you my own personal system of tracking expenses but for now lets just leave it at this.
7. Appreciate what you have and not what others have.
As long as you have food in the fridge and a roof over you head, call yourself blessed.
In today’s day and age of social media it’s so easy to feel “jealous” or “insecure” because of everything you see. But remember, most of the things posted on social media are “filtered”. People show only the best parts of their life and not what’s real. Don’t feel pressured by what you see and what you think you should have at this time in your life. Alex and I always used to say this to each other when we were in Paris, “As long as we have food in the fridge and a roof over our heads, we are blessed”.
8. Stop Dreaming and Start Doing!
If you want to do it, do it now. Make it happen.
If Martin Luther King stopped at I have a dream, then the world would be a completely different place today. So no matter what your dream is, no matter how impossible you think it is, do something about it and do it NOW. Start today. At least you can tell yourself you did your best and failed or succeeded rather than not doing anything at all and wondering for the rest of your life “what if?”.
9. Don’t Let Others Rain on your Parade.
It’s your life, live it!
With that said, when trying to accomplish your dream or even just trying to live your own life and make your own choices, people will try to second guess you. People will tell you that’s stupid or your crazy, it’s never gonna happen, it’s a waste of time, what the hell are you doing with your life and so many other things. Pay no mind. Live your life. Never let anyone doubt what you believe in and what you want to do or even dictate the way you should live your life. Prove them wrong, do you and live the best life you can live. But remember, do everything you do with 100% and good intentions and you will never fail.
10. Choose Love & Laughter.
Happiness is a choice.
I always say this, “Happiness is a choice.” You can choose to see the good or see the bad. I always choose the former. I’d rather live a live full of laughter and joy than stress and negativity. Keep in mind that at the end of the day it’s up to you to accept negativity or not. Choose to let go and be happy. It makes life so much better. Be kind. Smile. Share. Our world will be a much better place. *Ms. Bb. Pilipinas Candidate 28482* World Peace. I thank you! LOL
