Welcome back to the blogging world for me. Lately I’ve been inspired to be productive on the blog since I started bullet journaling. I know it’s weird but I created my bullet journal specifically to help me manage my personal, work and blog life much better. So far so good though. It’s only been the first week so who knows how long this will last.
Today I am going to share with you guys what I keep in my everyday makeup bag. As you all know (and in case you didn’t) I have a full-time job, and this is what I take with me to work everyday. It’s pretty much my go to makeup recently when I’m in a rush or when I wan’t to put on makeup but not full beat. I wanna share with you guys my makeup essentials that I feel will help you as you’re trying to build your first makeup kit or even an on-the-go makeup bag for yourself. I’m also going to share with you mini reviews on each item as well as tips on how I like to use them. This is gonna be a long one so grab a snack and let’s begin…
NOTE: You don’t have to have the same exact items as I have. If you have some similar items already then that’s great! You can just add on to the things you lack in your makeup bag.
First off TOOLS…
Just like anything you do in life, you need your basic tools to help you get the job done right. I always say that it’s hard to teach someone makeup if they don’t have the proper brushes or tools because they wont be able to do it the same way I taught them. And here are my must haves…
1. Makeup Bag
For my current makeup bag I kept it simple with just a clear cosmetic bag with black lining. It looks clean and sleek in my opinion. I got mine from Lazada. This came in a set of 3 with 1 bigger cosmetic bag with the handle on top of the flap (similar to the photo on the right) and 1 more pouch just like my everyday bag but slightly thinner. I tried looking for it on Lazada and other sites but I couldn’t fine the exact style I purchased. The ones that they selling now has the biggest pouch looking like a tote with a long handle. I like traveling with clear pouches to easily see what’s inside. Try to use a makeup bag that works for you and reflects your style.
2. Eyelash Curler – Tweezerman Pink Eyelash Curler
An eyelash curler is an ABSOLUTE must! It makes your eyes pop even if you don’t have that much makeup on. I would highly recommend investing in a good eyelash curler. I’ve had my tweezerman lash curler for many many years now and it’s still good. I simply change the rubber with refills from elf which are good quality ones as well and incredibly affordable!
3. Razor – Mumuso Retractable Eyebrow Shaper
I’ve very lazy when getting my eyebrows done and I also don’t have the patience to pluck which is why I just always have a razor with me to clean up the edges when needed. I got mine from the Korean store, Mumuso. I love this razor because it comes with extra blades, it’s so compact making it perfect for travel, and most of all it’s pink and very affordable! I would highly recommend picking up one of these on your next trip to Mumuso.
4. Foundation Brush
Unlike the other tools I ALWAYS bring, the foundation brush changes depending on the foundation/base I bring with me. For this makeup bag set up I decided to take a long with me a small foundation brush that isn’t dense. This allows me to apply my base lightly giving it an airbrushed “no makeup” look. I can’t tell you where to get this because it was a very sweet gift from one of my favorite IG makeup shops @makeuphaul_ph. Ana is seriously the sweetest ever and always gives gifts whenever you purchase from her store.
5. Bronzer Brush – Morphe R2
I have 2 favorite bronzer brushes both very affordable. What I have in this photo is the Morphe R2 which I got in the Jaclyn Hill Favorite Brush Set that I purchased from another one of my favorite IG shops @themakeupstore.mnl. Irene, the owner of the store, now has a website where you can browse their available products. My other favorite brush is the Elf complexion brush. For many years that was my ride or die bronzer brush that I still enjoy till this day. If you are on a tight budget I would highly recommend trying that one out.
6. Powder Brush
Now this is just some random powder brush I’ve had for years. The brand is Fenling and I have no idea where to get it now. This was one of my stater brushes that I got back when I was in college and as you can tell I still really love it. It’s a testament that brushes don’t have to be expensive for them to work.
7. Eye Brushes – Eco-Tools Eye Enhancing Duo Set
For on-the-go eye looks I like to keep it simple. I was shopping in SM department store when I found this amazing brush duo set from Eco-Tools that is very affordable and pretty much has everything I would need to create a simple eye look. This duo come with 4 brush heads in total.
Shade – to shade all over the lid
Define – to define the lash line and use for eyeliner
Blend – to blend out the crease
Smudge – to smudge out the bottom lash line
If you’re a beginner in makeup I would suggest starting out with this set because it will make your eyeshadow application easy without breaking the bank!
8. Blush Brush – Morphe M530
For the longest time I’ve been using an angled blush brush from Zoeva, which I still love up to this day. However, I’ve been enjoying the Morphe M530 a alot! I don’t like having a lot of blush, just a wash of color on my cheeks, I’m more of a bronzer girl, which makes this the perfect blush brush for those who really want to control the amount of product for application.
Beauty Blender / Blending Sponge:
I would highly recommend investing in a blending sponge. If the beauty blender is not in your budget there are a lot of dupes out there that does the same work but half the price. Some of my favorite dupes include the Eco-Tools blending sponge duo and the Real Techniques Miracle Sponge. I got my Eco-Tools blending sponge from @makeuphaul_ph and you can find the Real-Techniques blending sponge in SM Department Stores.
Next FACE MAKEUP…
1. Foundation / Base – Pond’s Flawless White BB+ Cream in Light
I have to be honest on this product, this is on of those “my favorite actress was the endorser and made me buy it” purchase. (DON’T JUDGE ME…) I love Heart Evangelista. I am such a huge fan and when I saw on her IG story using this I was intrigued. So far so good. I’ve been liking the less is more type of look for my everyday makeup. It evens out my skin tone well and gives me a nice base for makeup throughout the day
2. Face Powder – Pink Sugar Dual Finish Face Powder in Natural Ochre
Hands down my favorite powder from the drugstore! You can use it wet or dry. The undertones are perfect for us filipinas and it’s affordable! To top it all off it’s a local filipino brand. Try it out and I promise you’ll love it!
3. Blush: – Pink Sugar Sweet Cheeks HD Cheek Color in Summer Nights
Another product from Pink Sugar I absolutely love! The shade is perfect and just how I like my blush! Plus it’s matte which is how I like my blush.
4. Bronzer – Bourjois Matte Illusion Bronzing Powder in 21 Fair
If you’ve been following me for a long time, you’d know that this is my holy grail bronzer. Haven’t found one that could top it but I am still searching. I know it’s not available here in the Philippines. I get mine from France whenever I visit or I have family and friends coming from France. I have a full stock of this which is why I never run out.
5. Highlighter – Benefit Watts Up Cream Highlighter
Highly recommend trying out this product. I know it’s quite pricey but it gives you an absolutely beautiful glow to the cheeks that lasts the whole day! One of my favorites for sure.
6. Concealer – Calypso Magic Concealer & Maybelline Age Rewind in Light
2 of my favorite concealers of all time! I know the Calypso Magic Concealer isn’t readily available here in the Philippines but if you get a chance to try it out you’d know why I love it. It really cancels out the dark circles underneath your eyes which makes this combination the best! I got mine when I took a family trip to Japan and I stocked up on them while I was at it. You can get the Maybelline Age Rewind everywhere here in the Philippines; SM, IG, Tupped Boutique Uptown Mall. So there’s no need to worry.
Next EYES & LIPS…
1. Eyeshadow Palette – Pixie x ItsJudyTime ItsEyeTime Palette
If you’re a beginner in makeup I would highly recommend trying out this palette! It’s perfect for everyday, very blendable and highly pigmented. I even use the black in this palette as eyeliner on days where I don’t feel like fussing with a pen or pencil. I got mine from @makeuphaul_ph
2. Mascara – Kiss Me Heroine Make Volume & Curl Super Waterproof Mascara
Another HOLY GRAIL products in my collection. I have yet to find a mascara that works so well with my sad asian straight lashes as this product does! This also comes in Length & Curl formula that I love just as much. This is available is SM department stores if you wanna check it out.
3. Brow Pencil – Too Cool for School Glam Rock Urban Chic Brow Pencil #1
I got this during my last trip to Korea and surprisingly I really like it. There are so many amazing brow products out there in the market both high end and drugstore so just get one that works for you. To me brows products are VERY IMPORTANT since I wasn’t blessed with natural brows. I prefer using a pencil for everyday because it’s easier and faster to work with. For beginners I suggest starting out with a pencil first.
4. Brow Gel – Too Cool for School Glam Rock Urban Brow Gel #1
Again, another product I got during my Korea trip. I got it the same time as I got #3 (obviously Cesca. Duh. LOL). It’s important to set your brows with brow gel and I would suggest starting off with a clear brow gel or clear mascara if you’re a beginner. It makes life easier. Trust me! Especially if you’re the type to change your hair color A LOT. Clear brow get just looks more natural for those who aren’t familiar with color matching your brows and hair.
5. Lip Balm – Innisfree Moisture Lip Treatment
I really love this lip balm and I got it from Korea as well. But again, you can use whatever lip balm you want. To be honest I don’t wear lipstick on an everyday basis. Lip balm is my go to.
6. Lipstick – MAC Cremesheen Lipstick in Peach Blossom / Pure Zen
And if I were to wear lipstick for everday, it would be either MAC Peach Blossom or Pure Zen. My 2 favorite nude “your lips but better” lipstick shades.
OPTIONAL: Eyeliners: Liquid & Pencil: Too Cool for School Dinoplatz Highline Eyeliner in Black (Pencil) & Kiss Me Heroine Make Smooth Liquid Eyeliner in Black (Pen).
Now this is completely optional. Like what I mentioned I use black eyeshadow for liner on a normal everyday basis but if you were to want to add eyeliner I would suggest a retractable pencil liner or a thin brush tip liquid pen liner. The Kiss Me Heroine Make Eyeliner is available in SM Department Stores but the Dinoplatz is a product I got from Korea. I would suggest the Revlon ColorStay retractable pencil eyeliner in Black or Dark Brown as an alternative. That product never fails me!
CONGRATULATIONS! You’ve reached the end of my post. Told you it would be a long one. I hope in someway I was able to give you some insight on how to start your own everyday on-the-go makeup kit. It’s really not intimidating. Just try to figure out what products work for you and make you feel good with minimal effort.
